The better way to sell online

Page meta-tags and keywords

  • Description

You should always optimize your keywords and meta-tags on each page of your website.

This can be done by clicking on any page on your index 1 or 2 — you will notice the "Page" button activate near the top of the editor. Click on the drop down arrow next to the "Page" button and select the "Enter details for search engines (Meta Tags)" tool

You will see a screen window which looks like the image below.

In most cases if you have created a new page and first entered in your "page content" properly, ShopFactory will automatically fill in the "HTML Page Title" and "Description" fields in this window. If not, you can simply close the window, highlight your page text, then copy and paste back into the Meta Tags window quickly.

The important part of this wizard is to ensure you have entered your "HTML Page Title". This is the important meta-title that search engines like Google look at. In this case, as carried over from our last newsletter — I have used the keyword phrase "Compact Digital Cameras" as the HTML Page Title.

From there, after your description is filled in, you can then enter in your keywords. It's a good idea to read through the "Tool Tip" at the top of the Meta Tags Wizard as a baseline for completing the rest of this procedure for your hidden SEO content.

Enter in your keywords (or keyword phrases) one by one — the important thing to consider here is to reuse the keywords and phrases in your HTML Page Title and Description as I have shown below. Keep the keywords down to only those keywords that are important and follow the guidelines given in the top tip section of this wizard.

the other important factor to consider is the "Page Filename:" as you will see in this window. By re-naming your HTML page file name you can add an extra boost to your page keywords. Make sure you DO NOT use spaces in the page file name. In order to give the proper SEO structure for your page file name use a dash- or _underscore in between words and keep the HTML page file name down to three or four words maximum. Some hosting servers and search engines may have problems with spaces in your page names, so it is important to hyphenate your page name properly.

As mentioned above, when you do a search on Google, you should see search results like this:

Although this example uses extra words in the HTML Page Title (in blue), you'll notice the same content as we have used in our meta-tags set-up. The HTML Page Title again is the most important factor that this search engine looks at first.
